Drama unfolded recently when a Master of Ceremony (MC) found himself in a situation where he had to intervene as a city businessman launched an attack on a male magistrate during a public engagement meeting.

The businessman accused the magistrate of contributing to the breakdown of his marriage. The incident occurred at a gathering held at a playground within one of Kampala city’s five Divisions. The Division leadership, along with the magistrate (names withheld), had been invited by the Division Deputy Resident City Commission to address the public on crime prevention and garner feedback on the Court’s performance in the area.

After the guest speakers concluded their remarks, the MC opened the floor for questions, prompting the businessman, a well-known figure in the Division, to seek the microphone.Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to address their concerns, the businessman leveled serious allegations against the magistrate, claiming personal experience with the magistrate’s actions during his marital dispute. Before he could elaborate further, the microphone was swiftly taken from him.

“I thank all our leaders here for organising such a wonderful meeting to air out our grievances and problems. I have a serious issue with our magistrate who is here with us, I’m very sure that he knows me very well because I appeared before him defending my marriage but he used the law to make sure that I lose my wife,” the businessman said before the microphone was grabbed from him.

The audience reacted vocally, questioning why the businessman was silenced when the purpose of the meeting was to provide an avenue for grievances to be aired. The MC defended his actions, urging the businessman to seek legal counsel and present evidence rather than publicly humiliating the magistrate.

After the meeting, the businessman spoke with theGrapevine, revealing his account of how the magistrate allegedly interfered in his marriage. According to him, the contentious relationship began during divorce proceedings initiated by his wife, where he felt the magistrate displayed bias against him.

Despite his pleas for time to reconcile with his wife, the businessman claims the magistrate expedited the proceedings, ultimately dissolving the marriage and issuing a warning during the judgment.

Subsequently, the businessman alleges witnessing his wife and the magistrate together, further fueling suspicions of a romantic involvement.Advised by a lawyer friend, the businessman intends to petition the Judicial Service Commission for redress.
