ADF Rebels Make Gruesome Raid Again – Slaughter 8 People In The Night Just Months After Killing Tourists
The Ndimo village in Mambasa territory, located in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), fell victim to an assault by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists.
This incident occurred on Friday, March 29, 2024, resulting in the tragic loss of eight lives. Among the deceased, five were pygmies, further deepening the sorrow caused by the ongoing violence in the area.
Mambasa Territory, situated in the Ituri Province of the DRC, continues to grapple with prolonged conflict, characterized by brutality, mass displacement, and fatalities.
The Eastern DRC remains a hotspot of conflict, with numerous armed factions competing for territorial dominance, control over valuable resources, and political power. These factions comprise both indigenous militias and externally-supported groups.
Among these armed entities is the ADF, a faction linked to the Islamic State (IS) network, which operates extensively in the eastern region of the DRC. The ADF’s activities have inflicted significant harm, exacerbating the region’s already dire humanitarian crisis.
Just a month prior to this attack, suspected ADF militants struck Mayimoya in Beni territory, claiming the lives of eight individuals, including three women.
Originating as a Ugandan Muslim-majority rebel coalition in 1995, the ADF established a foothold in the eastern DRC. Since then, the group’s actions have resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians, with their attacks spreading from North Kivu to neighboring Ituri province.
In 2019, the ADF pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, further amplifying their threat within the conflict-ridden region.Responding to heightened tensions, the Ugandan and DRC armed forces launched a joint military campaign known as “Operation Shuja” against the ADF in late 2021.
This operation was initiated following twin suicide bombings in Kampala, attributed to the ADF, which claimed the lives of at least seven individuals.
Despite assertions from the Ugandan military regarding the decimation of ADF capabilities, the frequency of attacks persists unabated.
