First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba Survives Bullets In Teso, See Who Wanted Him Dead

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba recently recounted his combat encounter with Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, whom he and the UPDF expelled from their camp in Teso sub-region.
The LRA, under Joseph Kony’s leadership, was subsequently defeated by the UPDF.During a recent visit to Eastern Uganda, Muhoozi informed the people of Soroti that President Museveni had deployed him to serve in the Infantry Motorised Battalion of the Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB) to counter the threat posed by LRA chief of staff, Tolbert Tabuley.
“The President had sent me and my unit to block Tabuley, who was disturbing Teso,” Muhoozi shared with thousands of listeners during the Teso Baraza at Soroti Sports Grounds last year.
“We set up our ambush at Ochuna. There was fear that Tabuley would attack the Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camp at Soroti-Orungo,” he added, as the crowd listened attentively.“We spent the whole night in ambush. In the morning, we encountered Tabuley at a primary school,” he emphasized.
“The encounter convinced the LRA not to continue their actions.”
At the time, Tabuley held the position of third in command within the LRA.The former Land Forces commander revealed that this was the first time he had come under fire in battle against Tabuley’s forces.Tabuley posed a significant threat to the UPDF.Muhoozi recalled another encounter: “We fell into another ambush set by him at Katine in Soroti.”
“We had spent the whole day shelling Tabuley from Atirir. As we were returning to Soroti at night, he laid an ambush. The terrorists suffered losses. Soon after that ambush, Tabuley was killed in Anyalah, Kaberamaido by one of our units.”“So, no one needs to educate me about Teso. I am familiar with it,” Muhoozi declared as the crowd cheered.
“People used to sleep on the road because they were scared of the LRA, Today, we are here to thank God for the peace we are enjoying. The days of insurgencies, IDP camps, and massacres are behind us. We thank all UPDF units that fought here. And also the arrow boys. We thank the people of Teso for all the support they gave us.”
Muhoozi visited Teso to engage with the people in a Baraza and listen to their concerns. Barazas, also known as community information forums, provide a platform for local leaders to raise issues affecting their communities. Muhoozi would later advise the President on addressing these concerns. The presidential advisor has been conducting Barazas across the country to enhance accountability in public service delivery.
Muhoozi mentioned being briefed by security officials on raids by Karamojong rustlers.“We have the issue of criminality by Karachunas. Security officials have briefed me on the raids in Katakwi, Kapelebyong, and Kumi. Since January, 244 guns have been recovered, and many rustlers have been arrested and prosecuted,” he noted.
Muhoozi stated that the raids by cattle rustlers have decreased due to the pressure exerted by the UPDF. The UPDF General mentioned that the President had granted amnesty to the Karuchunas, and they were beginning to surrender voluntarily and hand over their guns.Regarding the economy, Muhoozi thanked the people of Teso for embracing citrus fruit cultivation, which the government introduced as an alternative to cotton growing.
