Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Retires 150 UPDF Soldiers – Tips Them About Better Retirement Plans

In a solemn ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, bid farewell to 150 esteemed officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, marking the end of their dedicated service to the nation.

Saluting the men of valor on Monday afternoon, General Muhoozi commended the retiring officers for their unwavering commitment to Uganda’s security over the years, acknowledging their sacrifices and valor in numerous operations.

“For Uganda, our fatherland, no sacrifice is too great,” he declared, echoing the sentiments of gratitude and respect felt by all in attendance.

Among the retirees were 33 Colonels, 78 Lieutenant Colonels, and 39 Majors, whose collective service spanned decades of military excellence. General Kainerugaba assured them that the legacy of their dedication would be carried forward by the younger generation of officers, who continue to uphold the noble traditions of the Peoples’ Army.

Drawing parallels between the military and religious vocations, General Kainerugaba emphasized that service in the armed forces transcends mere occupation—it is a calling, a lifelong commitment to the nation.

He urged the retiring officers to remain vigilant and engaged in civilian life, using their experience and insights to contribute to Uganda’s progress.Acknowledging the transition into civilian life, General Muhoozi affirmed the UPDF’s commitment to supporting veterans economically through initiatives such as veteran SACCOs, ensuring a dignified life beyond the uniform.

Brigadier General Kaweesa Kigozi underscored the importance of retirement as a natural stage in a military career, enabling the infusion of fresh talent and perspectives into the armed forces. He emphasized the significance of retirees’ continued engagement with civilian society, both as ambassadors of the military and as contributors to national development.

In a poignant moment, Colonel Jafari Kasirivu expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the UPDF leadership, and the people of Uganda for the privilege of serving the nation.

He paid tribute to fallen comrades and civilians who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom, urging his fellow retirees to steward their retirement packages wisely and responsibly.

The ceremony, attended by senior military officials and family members, served as a testament to the indelible mark left by these retiring officers on Uganda’s history. As they embark on a new chapter in their lives, their legacy of patriotism and service will endure, a beacon of inspiration for future generations of defenders of the nation.
