Suspected ADF Rebel Arrested In Kasese , Uganda Police Reveals Details

An Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fugitive who fled the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo and settled in Uganda has been confirmed by police to have been arrested.
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, police in Rwenzori East and Mpondwe (Kasese District) detained the suspect, who was identified as Abdurazak Bahati, last week.
During a weekly police press briefing in Kampala, Enanga stated, “The suspected 28-year-old ADF rebel sneaked from Twodoli in DR Congo and entered into Uganda.”The suspect, according to authorities, was a member of the group that crossed into Uganda through Ntoroko District in November 2023.
“The majority of his associates were eliminated, but we think there are a few survivors that we are actively pursuing,” noted Enanga.
According to police, they are still conducting a number of operations in the Rwenzori area to remove militants from the ADF.Enanga stated, “Our counter terror task teams have continued to remain vigilant and have continued to monitor our western borderline for potential threats in the Rwenzori area in coordination with the joint territorial security teams due to the ongoing successful UPDF pursuit against the ADF rebels in Eastern DR Congo. We are monitoring active ADF activities on the other side of the DR Congo,”
He Added, “Even though at this time we do not have specific intelligence reflecting any new attacks along our Rwenzori axis with DR Congo. We were getting complaints of insecurity, perpetrated by ADF in Bukuka Hills, in Eastern DRC. We are monitoring acts of insecurity on the Eastern DR Congo side of Lhubiriha, Kasindi around February 12”
Police on Tuesday restated their need for widespread awareness in the fight against terrorism and rebel organizations.
“To counter any potential threats that may arise, our joint territorial teams continue to maintain the heightened posture with patrols and increased visibility along the Rwenzori area,” Enanga continued.
On November 2, the UPDF said that they had apprehended the leader of the ADF unit that was held accountable for the deaths of two foreign honeymooners and their local guide in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
It was believed that the 31-year-old suspect, identified by the UPDF as Abdul Rashid Kyoto, alias Njovu, was the lone survivor of a military operation against the ADF that took place at night, during which six terrorists were slain.Njovu was additionally remanded to Luzira by the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court on November 27, 2023 on charges of murder and terrorism.
