Ndiga Clan Chief Lwomwa Buried!! Here’s What Was Done To The Dead Body Covered In Hundreds Of Bark Clothes, No Coffin In 15 Feet Huge Grave
“Lwomwa” is the esteemed title bestowed upon the leader of Buganda’s Ndiga clan. Tragically, Eng Daniel Bbosa, the incumbent Lwomwa, met his untimely demise last Sunday when assailants, targeting him specifically, ambushed his car and unleashed a barrage of bullets, claiming his life instantly.
The harrowing incident transpired in Lungujja Lubaga division, where Eng Daniel Bbosa was returning from clan weekend duties within the city. Three assailants, riding a motorcycle, unleashed gunfire upon him before swiftly fleeing the scene.
In a departure from past occurrences, vigilant boda boda riders swiftly pursued the assailants, managing to subdue and apprehend two of them. Regrettably, one assailant succumbed to the mob’s fury, while the other is currently under tight security at Mulago hospital, recuperating from injuries sustained during the apprehension.
The third assailant, however, evaded capture. In a startling revelation, law enforcement identified the apprehended assailants as Enock Sserunkuma (the deceased one) and Noah Luggya, both bearing names affiliated with the clan led by the deceased. This unsettling connection implies that the perpetrators were members of the very clan they targeted, exacerbating the tragedy.
In response to the vacancy left by the fallen leader, the Ndiga clan swiftly designated Eria Luggya Lwasi Buzaabo, the former clan premier, as the new Lwomwa. He was formally presented to Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga, who will subsequently introduce him to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
Furthermore, law enforcement has apprehended another suspect, Milly Naluwenda, a Lungujja resident and a clerk at the Buganda Kingdom traditional court. Allegations suggest her involvement with the assailants, evidenced by call logs indicating communication between her and the perpetrators on the day of the attack.
Following a poignant funeral service at Namirembe Christian Fellowship Church in Mengo, the late Ndiga Clan head will be interred today in Mbaale, Mawokota, Mpigi district.
Unlike conventional burial practices, Lwomwa’s remains was not enclosed in a coffin but wrapped in over 200 backcloths, a tradition believed to preserve the body. Additionally, his grave, dug at least 15 feet deep, will be prepared after sunset.
Although a casket briefly housed his remains during the funeral service, it was merely a rental, as the deceased is now shrouded in layers of backcloths, eschewing the coffin altogether.
Numerous dignitaries from the central government, Mengo establishment, and various political factions have convened at the burial ceremony to pay their respects. Notable figures in attendance include Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, NUP Principal, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, several clan heads, and Deputy Premier Prof Hajj Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase, among others.
