Shocking!! Police Stops Security Guards From Moving With Guns In Kampala Ahead Of NAM Summit

Uganda is this week expected to host the highly anticipated Non Aligned Movement (NAM) summit after a year of preparation. The summit starts today 15th January to 20th January 2023.

The over 120 member state organization will discuss a lot of issues at global stage.Uganda and president Museveni will hold the chairmanship of the organization until 2027 as the next host who will be decided from Kampala from take over.Now with over 5000 delegates set to jet into the country to attend the NAM summit this week and the G77+China Summit next week at the same venue of Munyonyo Convention Centre, police has issued directives to security companies which they should adhere to during the time when the visitors are around.

According to a letter seen by this publication addressed to all private security companies, police has banned the movement of security guards with guns in the Kampala Metropolitan area and instead the guards should find the firearms at their station of duty in a rotational mode where the outgoing guard hands over the gun to the incoming guard.

“All private security organizations deploying guards in the Kampala Metropolitan Area are hereby notified that due to the high level NAM Summits that the government of Uganda is Hosting this month, there is a ban on movement private security guards with fire arms from 12th January 2024 to the end of January 2024”-reads part of the letter.

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Executive Director Dr. Lilly Ajarova has said the country is fully set to give a Memorable experience to the Non Aligned Movement Summit delegates.Over 120 countries have confirmed their availability for the long awaited conference, happening in Uganda for the first time.

The NAM summit main events events will take place at the Speke Resort Conference Center in Munyonyo, Kampala.According to Ajarova, UTB has positioned and packaged different tourism products for the delegates to enjoy as they explore the Pearl of Africa both Virtually and Physically.

Among the earmarked places is Queen Elizabeth National Park that was founded in 1952 as Kazinga National Park but was renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by the Late Queen Elizabeth II of England.

The park is home to over 95 mammal species and over 600 bird species and it’s also understandably Uganda’s most popular tourist destination.
