My name is Jane, and I come from Wakiso, Uganda. Looking back at where I started, it’s almost unbelievable to see the life I have today. For many years, I worked as a house girl, moving from one home to another—serving people, washing clothes, cooking meals, and cleaning houses just to survive. Life was far from easy. I was underpaid, overworked, and often treated as if I were nothing. I always dreamed of a better life, but every time I faced my reality, hope seemed out of reach.
As a house girl, I witnessed how others lived. I would watch my bosses drive fancy cars, enjoy good food, and live in beautiful homes while I struggled to make ends meet on the little money I earned. I often asked myself if I would ever get the chance to live like that. I tried to save whatever little I could, but it was never enough.
