Following her release on bail from the Anti-Corruption Court on Monday, August 5, MP Cissy Namujju celebrated her newfound freedom with a lavish party at her plush home.

The event, which extended through the entire night, saw Namujju surrounded by friends and associates as they danced and reveled in the luxury setting.Namujju, whose political background is not well known, has earned a reputation as one of the wealthiest legislators in Parliament.

Her affluence is rumored to stem from her role as a conduit for high-ranking government officials, executing their errands and facilitating transactions.Despite facing serious corruption charges, Namujju’s arrest did not diminish her standing among her supporters.

In fact, some MPs have noted that her willingness to share her gains with her constituents has bolstered her popularity. The celebration at Namujju’s residence was characterized by a vibrant and exuberant atmosphere.

Guests danced the entire night to songs with provocative messages, and Namujju herself was seen twerking and dancing provocatively with her male associates.

The party underscored her defiant attitude towards the charges she faces and highlighted the strong support she retains within certain circles.

Judge Lawrence Gidudu, who granted bail to Namujju and her co-accused MPs, emphasized that the trial would proceed without delay, with a verdict expected by October 31, 2024.

While the charges against Namujju and the others are serious and have sparked recent anti-corruption protests, the judge noted that their arrest before receiving the alleged kickback justified their release on bail.

The MPs were required to surrender their passports and provide sureties for a non-cash bond of Sh100 million, in addition to the Sh50 million cash bond.MP Paul Akamba, who faces additional charges in the same court.

The court is scheduled to reconvene on August 8 and 9, 2024, for further hearings.Namujju’s post-release party stands in stark contrast to the serious legal challenges she faces.

It underscores the complex and often contradictory nature of political life in Uganda, where allegations of corruption and displays of wealth frequently intersect.

As the trial progresses, the public will be watching closely to see how these events unfold and what impact they will have on the broader political context.
