Godfrey Mutabazi, the former Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), received a distinguished award at the 2025 UCC Film Festival Awards in recognition of his pivotal role in advancing Uganda’s film and creative industries.

The ceremony, held at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) in Nakawa, was a highlight of the week-long festival organized by @UCC_Official. Mutabazi was celebrated for his instrumental contributions during his tenure at UCC, particularly in supporting local filmmakers and laying the groundwork for what has become a cornerstone event in Uganda’s cultural calendar.

Under his leadership, UCC championed initiatives that empowered Ugandan storytellers, providing them with platforms to share their narratives with both local and international audiences. His legacy includes the development and promotion of the film festival itself, which now serves as a vital space for talent development, industry networking, and cultural exchange.

The festival, themed “Celebrating Local Stories with Global Impact,” includes screenings, professional workshops, panel discussions, and a dynamic film market. The awards gala was the festival’s climax, recognizing individuals and productions that have significantly influenced the industry. Mutabazi’s recognition stood out as one of the most memorable moments of the evening, met with resounding applause from an audience of government officials, creatives, and media stakeholders.

His award serves not only as a tribute to his past leadership but also as an inspiration to emerging industry players. As Uganda’s film sector continues to grow, the acknowledgement of figures like Mutabazi reinforces the importance of visionary leadership in shaping the creative landscape.
