Fake Bomb Plots Exposed!! UPDF Officers Arrested For Allegedly Faking Bomb Incidents To Gain Praise & Promotions
Uganda’s security system has been rocked by shocking new developments. Two senior army intelligence officers were arrested on June 23, 2025, over suspicions that they were behind fake bomb plots. The arrests suggest that some top officials may have been staging threats to win public praise and boost their image.
Colonel Peter Ahimbisibwe, who led Counter-Terrorism, and Lieutenant Colonel Ephraim Byaruhanga, in charge of Special Operations, were taken into custody at the military intelligence offices in Mbuya, Kampala. Both were high-ranking members of the Defence Intelligence Directorate, one of the most powerful branches in the Ugandan military.
Their arrest was ordered by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is now cracking down on what insiders are calling “deep-rooted rot” within the army. According to military sources, classified information showed possible links between the officers and staged security incidents—including bomb threats that may have been made up or exaggerated.
There are also fears that rebel groups like the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) may have secretly gained access to Uganda’s military intelligence system. But now, even more disturbing questions are being asked: Were some of these bomb threats real? Or were they carefully planned by insiders to cause fear, only to be “heroically” stopped—so that certain officers could take credit and win public trust?
“This is very serious,” said one senior military source. “General Muhoozi gave direct orders for the arrests. More people could be investigated. This goes to the heart of national security.”
Security analyst Dr. Sarah Kihika described the case as a sign of bigger problems. “If army officials are faking bomb threats or working with rebels, it means the system has been compromised. It could be about power struggles, politics, or even money,” she explained.
General Muhoozi has made it clear he wants to clean up the army. Since becoming Chief of Defence Forces in early 2024, he has disciplined several officers over corruption, disobedience, and interference in public programs. But this latest case might be the most serious so far.
The Defence Intelligence Directorate is a key part of Uganda’s national defense. It controls surveillance, counter-terrorism, and border security. If that department is compromised, the entire country is put at risk.
Investigations are still ongoing, and more arrests are expected in the coming days. For now, the public is left wondering: how many of the bomb threats we’ve heard about were real—and how many were staged by the very people meant to stop them?
