“I’m Divorcing Hajjat Kulthum So That I Can Marry Another Woman To Get A USA Citizenship” Acram Gumisiriza Spills
Ugandan man Acram Gumisiriza, who is currently living in the United States, has caused a storm online after revealing the real reason behind his divorce from his wife, Hajjat Kulthum. In a leaked phone conversation, Acram admitted that the split is not about love gone wrong, but a strategy to get American citizenship.
During the call, Acram told a female friend that he is staying with a new woman whom he plans to marry. However, he made it clear that the upcoming marriage is only for immigration purposes. He explained that in order to qualify for a green card, he must appear to be legally single—something his marriage to Kulthum was blocking.
“I planned this divorce two years ago,” Acram said. “It’s not because I don’t love Hajjat, but because I need to clear my papers and marry an American woman to get citizenship.”
He also mentioned that he is happy with the attention their breakup has received in the media. According to him, the public drama helped convince U.S. immigration officials that the divorce is real, making it easier for him to go through with his plan.
“All my documents say I’m married. That’s what I’m trying to fix with the embassy,” he said. “The media noise helped me a lot. When I marry this woman, I’ll get the papers—and soon, you’ll see our wedding pictures.”
Despite all this, Acram said he still loves Hajjat Kulthum and doesn’t consider the divorce a true separation. He claimed the new marriage is only a formality and that Kulthum remains his wife in his heart—unless she chooses to move on.
“This marriage I’m doing is not real,” Acram confessed before ending the call. “Kulthum is still my wife. I’m only doing this to get papers.”
Kulthum, however, has taken the divorce seriously. Last week, she announced the end of their marriage and said she has involved religious leaders to guide the process. Her statement made headlines and caught many by surprise—especially after this latest revelation.
The situation has sparked debate on social media, with some people criticizing Acram’s actions, while others sympathize with his desire to secure a better future. Still, many are left wondering: Is it ever okay to play with marriage for the sake of opportunity?
