On November 2, 2023, Molly Katanga allegedly shot her husband, Henry Katanga, as detailed in forensic and DNA analyses presented to Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court by the director of public prosecutions (DPP).

The prosecution contends that Molly’s DNA was detected on the trigger, and the recovered cartridges matched the pistol found at the crime scene. The DPP argues that there is no valid defense for the accused persons, urging their conviction. The DPP plans to rely on evidence such as postmortem reports, forensic analyses, phone printouts, and scene-of-crime reports in court.

Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza issued an arrest warrant against Molly on Monday, following a request by the prosecution led by Jonathan Muwaganya. Despite a letter from Molly’s next of kin regarding her medical condition, the magistrate proceeded to issue the arrest warrant. The order instructs the police to apprehend Molly, who is reportedly bedridden, and bring her to court by February 12.

Molly’s lawyers cited recent surgeries and hospital admission as the basis for her medical condition. Molly, along with her daughters Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Nkwanzi, faces charges of murder and destroying evidence.George Amanyire and Charles Otai are accused of being accessories to murder. According to the prosecution, Molly shot Katanga, and the daughters tampered with evidence.

Molly and the deceased had four children, and evidence suggests he expressed safety concerns before his death. The prosecution asserts that Molly and the deceased had dinner together on November 1, 2023, but in the early hours of November 2, a loud blast was heard. Molly was seen standing in the doorway, and a pool of blood was discovered in the bedroom.

Subsequently, Nkwanzi and Kakwanzi arrived, and the latter drove Molly to Bugolobi Medical Center. Amanyire and Otai allegedly assisted in foiling evidence and tampering with the crime scene.

The committal papers state that the accused persons returned home, closed themselves in the master bedroom, and later instructed Amanyire to lift the deceased’s body onto a small mattress before Otai reported a suicide case to the police.
