On the 2nd of November 2023, a somber atmosphere enveloped the family of the late businessman Henry Katanga, who met a mysterious demise following a domestic altercation at his residence in Mbuya, Nakawa division.

On November 21, the court directed Molly Katanga Bananukye, the deceased’s wife, to appear in court on January 8, 2023, after missing two previous sessions. The remanded suspects were also scheduled to appear on the same day.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but immediately after the shooting, Molly Bananukye fell into a coma and underwent multiple surgeries at IHK in Kampala. In response to the tragedy, Molly Katanga’s mother, Mirieli Kyobuhoro, engaged top city lawyers, including former Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana, ensuring legal representation. Kyobuhoro asserted that if Molly and her daughter Martha required medical attention, the prison facilities were equipped to care for them.Martha Nkwanza, facing arrest, was expected in court, but her lawyers presented health documents indicating Molly Bananukye’s ongoing illness, postponing Martha’s appearance.

Consequently, an arrest warrant for Martha Nkwanzi was issued, and Molly Katanga’s court summons were extended.Previously arrested suspects were returned to Luzira prisons after a failed bail hearing, with a subsequent hearing scheduled for January 2024. Despite Martha’s three court absences following the birth of her second child, her grandmother Kyobuhoro, still bitter about her son’s mysterious death, insists Martha should face imprisonment and care for her baby there.

The legal battle involves three individuals arrested since Katanga’s death: Dr. Charles Otai, George Amanyire, a shamba boy, and Patricia Kakwanza, Molly Katanga’s eldest daughter. The complexity of the case, intertwined with government connections, suggests a protracted legal struggle ahead.

In a related development, three additional suspects, including Patricia Kakwanza, the eldest daughter, Dr. Charles Otai, and shamba boy George Amanyire, were remanded to Luzira until January 22. Their bail application is set for a hearing on that date.

The murder of Henry Katanga on November 2 in Mbuya, Kampala, following a domestic dispute with his wife Molly Katanga, remains shrouded in mystery. Investigations continue into the motive behind the tragic incident.
