Housing Finance Bank Secures 100 Acres from Kooki Kingdom for Tree-Planting Drive
In a major push for environmental conservation and community development, Housing Finance Bank has received 100 acres of land from the Kooki Kingdom. The land will be used for the Bank’s flagship Tiny Forests Initiative, which aims to plant 1 million trees by 2027. This effort aligns with Uganda’s sustainability goals while supporting the Bank’s mission to empower communities through responsible and inclusive development.
The donated land will play a crucial role in afforestation, helping restore degraded ecosystems, boost biodiversity, and create green livelihoods for local communities.
This collaboration marks a significant step in Uganda’s green transformation, reflecting the joint commitment of traditional institutions and the financial sector to preserve the country’s natural heritage. The initiative also supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
“We are deeply honored by Kooki Kingdom’s generous gesture and shared vision for a greener Uganda,” said Doreen Nyiramugisha, Head of Marketing and Communications at Housing Finance Bank. “This donation brings us closer to planting one million trees by 2027. Beyond planting trees, this initiative is about restoring hope for healthier communities, thriving biodiversity, and sustainable livelihoods. It also complements our goals of promoting sustainable housing, financial inclusion, and enterprise growth, contributing to a more equitable future.”
The Kooki Kingdom also expressed enthusiasm for joining this transformative environmental initiative. Representing the Kingdom, Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Idd Ahmed Kiwanuka stated, “We are proud to partner with Housing Finance Bank in this visionary project. This collaboration reflects our shared values and commitment to safeguarding the environment for future generations. We thank the Bank for recognizing the role of cultural leadership in driving meaningful change.”
Housing Finance Bank will work closely with Greening Africa, environmental experts, local governments, and grassroots organizations to advance this sustainable development project.
Together, the partnership highlights a powerful collaboration where tradition meets innovation for the benefit of both people and the planet.
