Zero Malaria!! Pilgrim Africa To Launch New School Malaria Project In Amuria District

Pilgrim Africa, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Sports, and Amuria District Local Government, is set to launch a new malaria prevention initiative targeting schools. The Pilgrim Protect School Malaria Project will officially launch on May 8, 2025, at Amuria Primary School in Amuria Town Council.
This initiative supports the government’s wider School Health Program and focuses on boarding schools in areas where malaria remains a significant threat. Research shows that school-aged children are particularly vulnerable to malaria, leading to frequent absences, poor academic performance, and even loss of life.
Malaria affects more than just health—it burdens families with treatment costs and hinders educational outcomes. To address this, Pilgrim Africa, guided by the National Malaria Elimination Division, has developed a comprehensive plan to protect students in high-risk regions.
The project will employ an integrated strategy, including Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) to eliminate mosquitoes inside school facilities, tracking of malaria cases and costs, health education to prevent infections, and training for staff and students on early diagnosis and treatment. Parents will also be encouraged to ensure children attend school free of malaria.
As part of the initiative, new spraying tools will be piloted in Amuria to improve efficiency and lower costs, potentially allowing the program to expand to more schools in the future.
The project is supported by partners such as Goizper Group, IVCC (Innovative Vector Control Consortium), and local teams working alongside Pilgrim Africa. Together, they aim to create smarter, more sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for malaria control in Uganda.
The launch represents a major step in safeguarding schoolchildren’s health, boosting their educational success, and investing in the country’s future. The Pilgrim Protect School Malaria Project highlights the power of partnership in creating healthier, more supportive learning environments.
