How I Went From Being a House Girl to One of Africa’s Wealthiest Women: A Malawian’s Story

My name is Mary, and I come from Blantyre in Malawi. For many years, my life was marked by pain and struggle. I was born into a poor family, and after finishing school, I couldn’t afford to continue with higher education. Out of desperation, I started working as a house girl in the city. My salary was very small, but I accepted it because I had no other choice. Every day, I wondered if I would ever escape that kind of life.

Despite working so hard, I was treated with little respect. I would wake up early, clean, cook, and do everything, yet at the end of the day, I was still poor and hopeless.
