My Journey to Help My Husband Overcome Alcohol and Drug Addiction

Living with a partner struggling with alcohol and drug addiction can be incredibly challenging. For years, I watched my husband, James, lose himself to bottles and substances, leaving our home filled with tension, arguments, and heartbreak. Our children, aged seven and ten, often hid in their rooms, frightened by the constant shouting and uncertainty. I tried everything—talking to him, encouraging support groups, and seeking counseling—but nothing worked. The addiction only worsened, and I felt helpless, fearing our family might be completely torn apart.

I remember the exhaustion and loneliness vividly. Some nights, I would sit in the kitchen quietly crying, wondering if there was any hope left. Friends and neighbors suggested rehab centers or medication, but James resisted every approach.
