My Rise from Tomato Seller to Luxury Hotel Owner
My name is Margaret Nantume, and I’m from Luweero District in Uganda. If someone had told me five years ago that I would one day be the owner of one of the finest hotels in the region, I would have thought it was a joke. Back then, I was a roadside tomato seller, doing everything I could just to get through each day. I had no business training, no money to invest, and no real direction — only faith and a strong will to push forward.
For years, I woke up before dawn to collect fresh tomatoes from farmers and set up my stall by the roadside. I stood through burning sun and heavy rain without rest. I earned just enough to pay rent for my tiny one-room home and feed my two children. Life was a daily struggle. My hands were rough and sore, and my feet ached and cracked from standing all day long. But I refused to give up. I carried dreams in my heart, even when they felt impossible. My biggest wish was to own a small grocery store.
