Medard Sseggona, a well-known lawyer and Member of Parliament for Busiro East, has officially expressed his interest in becoming the next President of the National Unity Platform (NUP) once Bobi Wine’s term comes to an end. Speaking to residents in Wakiso District, Sseggona shared his plans to step into the top party role when the current party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, finishes his leadership journey.

According to Sseggona, party leaders had a mutual agreement that Bobi Wine would serve only ten years as NUP President. He said Bobi Wine would not seek re-election after that time. Sseggona believes that this move allows for proper planning and smooth transition within the party. He proudly announced that after Kyagulanyi’s two terms, the next leader of the NUP would come from Busiro — and that person would be him.

Although he is already looking at the party’s top position in the future, Sseggona is currently focusing on a more immediate political challenge. He intends to seek re-election to Parliament in the upcoming general elections under the NUP ticket. However, he is not without rivals. Celebrated Kadongo Kamu singer and fellow NUP supporter, Mathias Walukaaga, has also shown interest in the same parliamentary seat, setting the stage for a competitive political race in Busiro East.

Despite the competition, Sseggona remains confident in his experience and dedication to the party. He emphasized that he is not rushing for power but is instead respecting the leadership structure and giving Bobi Wine time to complete his terms. With strong words and clear ambition, Sseggona has now made it known — he is ready to lead NUP into its next chapter when the time comes.
