Tragedy struck near the Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine today after a powerful explosion, suspected to be a bomb, rocked the area, killing at least two people and injuring several others. The blast triggered widespread panic around one of Uganda’s most revered religious sites.

Witnesses described a sudden flash followed by a deafening boom that echoed across several kilometers. The shockwave shattered windows and sent crowds of pilgrims and residents into chaos. Many scrambled for cover, some collapsing in fear, while others sought refuge in nearby buildings.

Security forces arrived at the scene within minutes, cordoning off the area and launching a full-scale investigation. Bomb squad units and counter-terrorism teams are on the ground, examining the site for evidence and ensuring no further threats remain.
“This is being treated as a major incident,” said a senior police official. “All relevant security agencies are working together to determine the cause and identify those responsible.”

Emergency responders, including ambulances and fire services, were deployed quickly to attend to the wounded and secure the scene. While the total number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, the confirmed deaths have cast a heavy shadow over the city and the nation.

Although the cause of the explosion has not been officially established, early signs point to a possible terrorist attack. Police have urged the public to avoid the area and remain calm as investigations continue.

Religious leaders and government officials have condemned the attack, expressing sorrow and calling for unity.
“The Martyrs Shrine is a symbol of peace and devotion,” said one local priest. “It’s heartbreaking to see such violence strike a place of worship.”

Authorities are urging the public to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior as the investigation unfolds. Further updates are expected as more details become available.

This disturbing event underscores the continued need for vigilance in safeguarding public spaces. As the nation mourns, Ugandans await answers—and justice.
