Tamale Mirundi has been announced dead.Among the first to confirm his passing was his close friend and fellow political commentator, Frank Gashumba.

Mirundi had been placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in July after being admitted to Kisubi Hospital. When the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, who also employed Mirundi at Radio 4, visited him at the hospital, he hinted at the possibility of a recovery.

“Following my visit this morning, I’m delighted to report that Mukwano gwe’bonna, Kojja Mzee Tamale Mirundi, is making tremendous progress! On behalf of the Patriotic League of Uganda and our Chairman/CDF Gen @mkainerugaba, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional doctors and the entire medical team at Kisubi Hospital for their outstanding care,” Barugahara posted on X on Thursday morning, July 25.

“I also want to express my deepest appreciation to Mzee Mirundi’s loving family—his children and wife—for their unwavering support and constant presence by his side during this challenging time. Your love and care have undoubtedly contributed to his improvement.”

“We thank God for granting one of Uganda’s most beloved and respected media personalities another chance at life. Wishing Mzee Tamale Mirundi continued recovery and good health! God bless Uganda, God bless Mzee Tamale Mirundi, and God bless his wonderful family! #GetWellSoon #TamaleMirundi.”

However, on July 23, Mirundi Junior revealed that his father was being tube-fed and had not spoken since his admission to the ICU.

Known for his charisma and wit, he leaves behind a legacy of charm and unique perspective. Details surrounding his passing are still emerging. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Sources close the family further last week revealed that they feared that Mirundi’s medical condition was exacerbated by his earlier refusal to visit several medical facilities such as IHK and Nakasero for medication as he feared that his enemies would penetrate the systems there and harm him.

They were concerned that Mirundi overworks himself, spending almost the entire day visiting different radio and TV stations where he is hosted. Mirundi has controversially become a vocal critic of most government officials whom he accuses of being corrupt.
