In a bold and sincere interview on NTV, Calvin Echodu made it clear that he is not running for NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda just for status. His mission is to revive the party, uplift young people, and bring meaningful progress to the region.

He began by expressing gratitude to the NRM National Chairman, H.E Yoweri Museveni, and the NRM Secretariat for launching the Digital Party Membership and Voter Register. He also commended the NRM Electoral Commission for managing the ongoing grassroots and structural elections. But it was his following remarks that truly stood out.

Mr. Echodu tackled tough issues head-on. He boldly stated that the NRM leadership has drifted away from the people. His goal is to close that gap and restore the party’s connection with its supporters. “I want to rebuild the trust between the party and our people. We must go back to our roots,” he said. His message was direct: the party must once again serve everyone, not just a privileged few.

With a deep focus on the future, Mr. Echodu highlighted youth empowerment as a top priority. He outlined a practical plan to identify, train, and place young people in meaningful leadership positions. “Our young people are full of energy and ideas. What they lack is opportunity. I want to change that,” he said. Speaking to those who feel overlooked, he offered them a seat at the table and a chance to shape the future.

As someone born and raised in Eastern Uganda, Mr. Echodu understands the struggles of the region. He pledged to put local development first and create links with global investment partners. “I come from here. I understand the struggles. That’s why I’m the right person to fight for Eastern Uganda’s future,” he said. He is not making empty promises—he wants results that improve lives.

Mr. Echodu brings a fresh approach and inclusive leadership to the table. He believes leadership must be for everyone. “Everyone matters. Every voice counts. From village elders to market vendors—this party should work for all,” he said. His vision is for an open, accountable, and people-centered leadership style.

Unlike many politicians who push their way into power, Mr. Echodu was invited by the people to contest. Grassroots leaders asked him to stand, and he accepted the call. “This campaign is not about me. It’s about us. The people wanted change and I am just their voice,” he said. His candidacy is rooted in popular support, not elite influence.

In a courageous move, he spoke out about flaws in the party’s election system. He criticized biased registrars, interference by senior politicians, and irregularities in the voter register. While others stay silent, Mr. Echodu chose to speak up. “I love this party. That’s why I want to clean it up,” he said. His honesty has marked him as a fearless reformer willing to stand for what’s right.

Some have questioned his decision to run for both MP of Soroti West and NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda. He addressed this concern clearly. “These roles complement each other. I can serve the people of Soroti in Parliament, and at the same time represent Eastern Uganda within the party,” he explained. His aim is to strengthen the region’s voice both nationally and within NRM structures.

Calvin Echodu is not a typical politician. He listens, he builds, he reforms, and above all, he serves. His message is clear—it’s time to fix the party, reconnect with the people, and bring fresh energy to the NRM.
