Fresh and troubling details have emerged surrounding the sudden death of Dr. Spire Kiggundu, a medical doctor from Henrob Hospital, who was recently found dead in a lodge room under suspicious circumstances.

According to investigators, Dr. Kiggundu checked into the lodge alone through a back entrance at around 1:00 a.m. He informed the receptionist that he would only be staying for a few hours. After entering Room R111, he reportedly left the door unlocked, suggesting he may have been expecting someone to join him.

Later, staff noticed that the door to his room was slightly open. He was seen sleeping, dressed only in boxer shorts, and appeared to be unresponsive. At around 10:00 a.m., when he had not checked out as expected, lodge workers returned to check on him. By midday, with no signs of movement or communication, the lodge manager alerted police at Kajjansi Police Station, prompting an official investigation.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Dr. Kiggundu deceased in bed. A search of the room led to the recovery of several items: $1,370 in cash, UGX 93,000, a phone tablet, two used HIV test kits, keys to his car (which was parked outside), an open bottle of Nivana water, an open Minute Maid juice bottle—both half-consumed—and Panadol Extra tablets.

CCTV footage from the lodge revealed that an unidentified woman had entered through the same back entrance around the same time Dr. Kiggundu arrived. She was seen speaking on the phone as she entered and later left the lodge in a hurry, carrying a black plastic bag. Investigators observed that the doctor’s phones went off at the exact time the woman checked in, raising further suspicion.

Police have since obtained call logs from the deceased’s phone and are now tracking the last number he communicated with in hopes of identifying the unknown woman and understanding what happened in the room that night. They believe she may be a key witness—or possibly more—in the case.

After Dr. Kiggundu’s burial, detectives also questioned his close family members to gather more background as the investigation intensifies. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The case remains open, with law enforcement working around the clock to uncover the full truth behind the events that led to the tragic death of Dr. Spire Kiggundu.
