Hajat Kulthum, the widow of the late Sheikh Muzaata Batte, has officially announced the end of her marriage to Acram Gumisiriza after two years together. The announcement came through an emotional and deeply personal statement she posted on her official Facebook page, where she addressed her family, friends, religious leaders, and the general public.

In the heartfelt message, Hajat Kulthum opened up about the pain of her decision, calling it one of the hardest letters she has ever had to write. She shared that her marriage to Mr. Gumisiriza began in 2022, after the painful loss of her first husband, Sheikh Muzaata, in 2021. At that time, she sought companionship to help her through her grief, hoping to find peace and emotional support in her new relationship.

However, according to her statement, things began to go wrong early in the marriage. She admitted to seeing red flags from the very beginning and revealed that despite her efforts to save the relationship, the emotional gap between them only grew wider with time. She spoke honestly about feeling unseen, unheard, and unsupported, and expressed her belief that her husband may have been feeling the same disconnect.

“This is not about blame,” she wrote, “It’s about acknowledging that we are no longer good for each other in the way that a partnership should be.” Her words reflected a mature and thoughtful decision made after deep reflection, prayer, and an attempt to preserve what once was a loving relationship.

Hajat Kulthum emphasized that the decision was not impulsive. Instead, it was the result of months—or even years—of trying to hold on to a bond that had faded. She expressed a wish to end things respectfully and handle any legal or shared responsibilities with fairness and dignity. She also pointed out the spiritual weight of divorce in Islam, highlighting that marriage is not only a personal commitment but also a sacred one. Her decision, she said, came after prayer and soul-searching.

Despite the heartbreak, she remains hopeful that both she and Mr. Gumisiriza can find healing and happiness on their separate paths. She ended her letter with gratitude for the moments they shared and a message of peace for the future.

Sheikh Abdul Rahaman Serunjoji and her family will be responsible for handling the divorce process moving forward.
