BREAKING!! President Museveni Speaks Out On Digital Number Plates, Says They Are for Security, Not Fines
President Yoweri Museveni has spoken out strongly about the recent concerns raised by the public over digital number plates and traffic fines. Many Ugandans have been worried, thinking the new digital number plates are just another way for the government to collect fines from motorists. But the President has cleared the air, saying that the main goal is not to punish people, but to improve national security.
“I saw some issue about the digital number plates, and fines. That people are being fined for I don’t know what. But the issue about the number plates is not about fines, it is anti-crime,” Museveni said. He explained that the digital plates are part of a wider security plan to fight crime and protect Ugandans. These plates are connected to a central command system. If a car is involved in a crime or stolen, an alarm can be triggered instantly to help security forces respond quickly.
The President also said that he cannot allow Ugandans to die because of poor infrastructure or weak systems. He praised the role of security cameras in helping reduce crime and said the new number plate technology is an addition to this effort. “These digitised number plates have a central command force, you touch it and an alarm goes off, that’s their work,” he explained.
Museveni emphasized that the purpose is to protect lives, not to collect money from road users. His message was clear: technology like this should be welcomed, not feared. It’s a step forward in building a safer Uganda for everyone.
