HE PAID FOR HIS SINS!! Wakiso Man Electrocuted To Death While Trying To Steal Electricity
A tragic accident occurred on September 12, 2025, in Natete, Wakiso District, when a local man, Gerald Mutalya, was electrocuted while attempting to steal electricity. According to a press release from Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), the incident took place at around 3:00 PM along Nakuwade-Mpawo on Sentema Road in the Central Service Territory.
Mutalya was reportedly trying to make an illegal connection on the 33kV feeder from the Mutundwe Substation. UEDCL described the act as extremely dangerous, warning that tampering with high-voltage equipment can easily lead to fatal accidents—as tragically occurred in this case.
The company confirmed that Mutalya was neither employed by UEDCL nor any of its contracted firms responsible for maintaining the electricity distribution network. “He was not authorized to work on the electrical infrastructure,” the statement read, highlighting the severe risks of unauthorized tampering.
Authorities have opened a case at Natete Police Station and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are working to establish how it happened and whether others may have assisted in facilitating the illegal connection.
Residents in the area expressed shock and concern over the tragedy. Witnesses noted that attempts to illegally tap electricity are not uncommon, but this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers involved. “He knew the risk, but he still tried it,” said one neighbor, reflecting the community’s alarm.
Electrical experts have emphasized that high-voltage lines, such as the 33kV feeder, carry enough current to cause instant death. UEDCL has reiterated that only trained and authorized personnel should handle electrical maintenance and connections, and urged the public to report any illegal electricity activities.
This unfortunate event underscores the severe consequences of tampering with electricity. Gerald Mutalya’s death is a tragic reminder that attempting to bypass safety regulations can be fatal, serving as a warning to others considering illegal connections.
