Prominent businessman Sudhir Ruparelia has broken his silence, speaking publicly for the first time since the heartbreaking loss of his son, Rajiv Ruparelia. The young entrepreneur died in a tragic car accident on May 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of ambition, kindness, and promise.

Rajiv was just 35 years old when his life was cut short in a crash along the Munyonyo-Entebbe Expressway. More than just the heir to a vast business empire, Rajiv was a visionary leader, serving as the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group—a conglomerate spanning real estate, education, hospitality, and banking.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:54 a.m. near the Busabala Flyover in Wakiso District. Rajiv was driving a Nissan GTR when the vehicle overturned and caught fire, killing him instantly. The tragic news sent shockwaves across the nation and left many in mourning.

Through a brief but poignant message, Sudhir expressed the deep sorrow of a grieving father:
“Rajiv Ruparelia, you are always going to live in our hearts forever. Rest in peace.”

Rajiv’s passing has united people from all walks of life in grief and remembrance. Tributes have poured in from friends, public figures, and ordinary citizens alike. Dr. Lawrence Muganga, Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, described Rajiv as “full of life, vision, and passion.” The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, also extended his condolences, joining many in honoring Rajiv’s memory.

Musician and political figure Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, remembered Rajiv as “humble, kind, and generous,” while Speaker of Parliament Anita Among acknowledged the deep loss felt by both the family and the broader business community.

A vigil is being held at the Ruparelia family home in Kololo, where loved ones have gathered to mourn and celebrate Rajiv’s life. The family has announced that cremation will take place on Tuesday, May 6, at 2:30 p.m. at the Hindu Crematorium in Lugogo, Kampala. They have requested privacy during this time of profound grief.

Rajiv’s untimely death is more than a tragic accident—it is the story of a bright future stolen too soon, a father’s deepest sorrow, and a nation mourning one of its rising stars. Though his time was brief, Rajiv left a lasting impact through the lives he touched, the dreams he pursued, and the love he shared.

Rest in peace, Rajiv. You are dearly missed, but your legacy endures.
