Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine and the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has openly admitted that his party is facing major financial problems as they prepare for the 2026 general elections.

While speaking at the NUP headquarters, Bobi Wine shared that the party is currently struggling with money and is now relying on internal support to keep their political activities going. To kick-start a fundraising drive, he personally donated UGX 10 million as a sign of commitment and called on others to join in.

“Yes, it’s true. Our party is broke,” Bobi Wine stated frankly. “We are going through financial challenges, and now more than ever, we must support ourselves.”

He handed the donation over to a fundraising committee led by Eng. Ronald Balimwezo. This team will be responsible for collecting and managing funds to support NUP’s operations ahead of the 2026 elections. Other members also stepped forward: Rubaga South MP Aloysius Mukasa pledged UGX 15 million, and a loyal supporter named Kapere donated UGX 100,000, saying it was all he could manage, but he gave it from the heart.

Bobi Wine explained that the party’s financial struggles began when the government started seeing NUP as a serious political threat. He accused President Museveni’s regime of blocking their funding sources. “We were denied access to IPOD funds, and nomination fees for presidential candidates were raised unfairly,” he said. “This didn’t happen back when FDC or DP were the main opposition.”

Despite these setbacks, NUP leaders remain determined. They say they will continue pushing forward, depending on the support and donations from their members and well-wishers. The party is now encouraging others to join the fundraising effort and keep the dream alive for 2026.

This bold and open step by Bobi Wine has sparked conversations across the country and inspired many of his supporters. It’s a clear message of unity, sacrifice, and resilience during tough times.
