Just Now!! Francis Zaake Arrives at Supreme Court Backed by Top Legal Minds as Speaker Among Faces Legal Pressure
A high-stakes legal battle has reached the Supreme Court of Uganda, with Hon. Francis Zaake facing off against an appeal filed by the Attorney General on behalf of Speaker of Parliament Anita Among. The appeal challenges an earlier court ruling that favored Zaake.
Prominent human rights lawyer Eron Kiiza confirmed via social media that Zaake’s legal team is fully assembled and ready for the fight. The lineup includes some of Uganda’s most distinguished lawyers: Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, George Musisi, Isaac Ssemakadde, Male Mabirizi, Kato Tumusiime, and Julius Assekajjako.
“We’re here to defend the supremacy of the Constitution and uphold the inalienable right to a fair hearing,” Kiiza stated, emphasizing the team’s focus on protecting Zaake’s legal and constitutional rights.
The case has generated intense public interest due to its political sensitivity and potential constitutional impact.
Zaake was censured by Parliament under contentious circumstances following a public feud with Speaker Among. His legal team argues the process violated his right to a fair hearing, while the Attorney General maintains that the censure was carried out lawfully and in line with parliamentary procedures.
Legal observers note that the case could have far-reaching implications for how Parliament handles internal discipline and the extent to which such actions are subject to constitutional safeguards.
The presence of several high-profile lawyers suggests a drawn-out and hard-fought legal contest ahead.
As the Supreme Court begins deliberations, all eyes are on what could become a defining case for Uganda’s legal and political future—testing the balance between institutional authority and constitutional rights.
