Lt Gen Mugira Tours NEC Agro Facility to Strengthen Food Security and Operational Excellence

Lt Gen James Mugira, Managing Director of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), visited the Grain Storage, Milling, and Supply plant in Kigumba, Kiryandongo District, to engage with NEC Agro staff and review ongoing operations. The visit formed part of his broader tour of NEC subsidiaries and joint ventures, aimed at connecting with staff and understanding the practical workings of each unit.

During his visit, Gen Mugira expressed satisfaction with the progress made by NEC Agro, praising the team’s commitment and dedication. He highlighted the significance of having staff from multiple locations, including Kyankwanzi, Katugo, and Kigumba, working together, emphasizing that collaboration and teamwork are key drivers of organizational success.

Gen Mugira underscored the strategic importance of the Kigumba facility, noting its role in supporting national food security objectives. He commended NEC Agro for successfully completing post-trial preparations and confirmed that the plant is ready to commence full production, marking a significant milestone for the enterprise.

The NEC MD encouraged the staff to maintain high standards of quality, citing positive feedback from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) regarding the food products supplied by NEC Agro. He urged the team to explore opportunities to expand their market reach beyond the UPDF, fostering broader community impact.

A key highlight of the visit was the launch of a new food supply management system, designed to improve operational efficiency and productivity across NEC Agro’s facilities. Gen Mugira noted that innovation and technological integration are critical to sustaining high performance in the agricultural sector.

Eng Simon Terwane, General Manager of NEC Agro Ltd, welcomed Gen Mugira and provided a comprehensive update on operations. He outlined the company’s strategic divisions, including agro machinery, crop production, value addition, and the supply of foodstuffs to MoDVA, highlighting NEC Agro’s commitment to food security and climate-conscious agricultural solutions.

Eng Terwane further noted that NEC Agro has earned recognition as the best national agricultural enterprise by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, reflecting the company’s dedication to excellence and innovation in the sector.

Concluding the visit, Gen Mugira commended the entire team for their hard work and dedication. He urged staff to continue striving for excellence while aligning daily operations with NEC Agro’s vision and mission, emphasizing that their contributions are critical to national food security and sustainable agricultural development.
