“No General Could Get Away with What Muhoozi Does” Muntu Slams Museveni
Retired UPDF Commander General Mugisha Muntu has issued a strong critique of President Yoweri Museveni’s inaction regarding his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, warning that it is undermining the credibility of Uganda’s military and eroding public trust.
In a recent interview, Muntu voiced his alarm over Muhoozi’s controversial behavior, arguing that any other army general would have been dismissed long ago for similar actions.
“Every UPDF general knows they wouldn’t survive a month acting the way Muhoozi does,” Muntu stated. “The more the president delays action, the more damage is done to the military’s image.”
General Muhoozi, currently the Chief of Defence Forces, has drawn public scrutiny for his outspoken political remarks and conduct that many view as self-serving and above the law. His close relationship with President Museveni has fueled accusations of nepotism and abuse of power.
Muntu stressed that the UPDF is a national institution built on discipline and should not be manipulated for personal or familial interests. He warned that Muhoozi’s actions set a dangerous precedent, especially for junior officers who look to their superiors for leadership.
“If President Museveni genuinely disagreed with his son’s conduct, corrective measures would already be in place,” Muntu said. “His silence is deepening mistrust in the system.”
He called on the president to demonstrate impartial leadership by holding all military officers accountable, regardless of personal ties. According to Muntu, favoritism not only jeopardizes the professionalism of the armed forces but also threatens national unity.
Muntu’s remarks have triggered widespread discussion online, with many Ugandans echoing his concerns and criticizing the apparent double standards within the military ranks.
