SAD NEWS!! ADF Rebels Attack Again, Slaughter 60 Civilians Alive, See Full Details Below
At least 60 people were killed overnight in eastern Congo when suspected Islamic State–linked rebels attacked a village during a funeral ceremony. The assault took place in Ntoyo, North Kivu province, leaving the local community in shock and deep mourning. Officials have warned that the death toll could rise as investigations continue.
Witnesses described the attack as terrifying. Survivors said militants forced villagers to gather in one spot before launching a brutal assault with machetes. “There were about 10 of them. I saw machetes. They told people to gather together and then started attacking. I heard the screams and fainted,” said one woman who survived, speaking anonymously for fear of retaliation.
Local authorities confirmed the scale of the tragedy. Col. Alain Kiwewa, an administrator in Lubero territory, reported that approximately 60 people were killed. He added that teams are still verifying the exact number, with a final count expected later in the day.
The attackers are members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militia that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in 2019. The group has waged a campaign of terror along the Congo-Uganda border, increasingly targeting civilians in villages, churches, and public gatherings in recent months.
Earlier this year, in July, the ADF carried out successive massacres in Ituri province. One attack involved a church bombing in Komanda that killed at least 34 people, while another in Irumu left 66 dead. These attacks illustrate a clear pattern of targeting innocent civilians, leaving communities living in constant fear.
Despite joint efforts by Congolese and Ugandan forces to combat the ADF, the group continues to conduct deadly raids. The situation is compounded by ongoing clashes with the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group, stretching government resources thin and leaving many remote villages exposed to attacks.
On the international stage, the United Nations has voiced serious concern. U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk told a Geneva session that the ADF is exploiting the security vacuum in eastern Congo, emphasizing the urgent need to protect civilians from ongoing violence.
