Sad News!! Exact Number Of UPDF Soldiers Killed By Al-Shabaab In Somalia Revealed, See Details Below
Uganda is deeply saddened by the loss of seven of its courageous soldiers who were killed during a fierce battle in Somalia. The soldiers were part of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) that joined a major operation to take back Sabiid-Anole town from Al-Shabaab fighters. This town is in the Lower Shabelle region of Somalia, and the operation lasted for three days.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed the deaths and praised the soldiers for their bravery. Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF spokesperson, told journalists that although the loss is painful, the soldiers died as heroes while serving their country and working for peace.
The operation, called “Operation Silent Storm,” was carried out together with the Somali National Army (SNA) and troops from the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The joint forces fought hard and managed to kill 30 Al-Shabaab militants. They also recovered weapons and destroyed many dangerous bombs, including hidden Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The seven UPDF soldiers lost their lives in intense fighting. They faced the enemy at close range as they cleared Al-Shabaab hideouts. The soldiers bravely entered underground tunnels where the terrorists had been hiding and planning attacks.
The AUSSOM Force Commander, Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, praised the joint forces for their courage. He said the mission is part of ongoing efforts to weaken Al-Shabaab so that Somalia can one day take full control of its own security. He noted that the operation supports the Somali Transition Plan, which will see Somali forces fully handle security in the future.
Brig Gen Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga, who leads Sector One, explained why Sabiid-Anole was so important. He said the town had been turned into a major base by Al-Shabaab for planning attacks, storing weapons, and preparing vehicle bombs. The militants also used it to set up illegal roadblocks to steal from civilians.
Now that the town has been captured, UPDF, AUSSOM, and SNA forces are securing it and continuing with follow-up operations to clear out any remaining terrorists. The military says they are determined to prevent Al-Shabaab from returning.
The bodies of the seven fallen soldiers will be brought back to Uganda, where they will be laid to rest with full military honors.
Uganda has been helping to bring peace to Somalia since 2007 as part of African Union missions. Even though Al-Shabaab has been weakened, the group, which is linked to Al-Qaeda, still carries out deadly attacks from time to time.
In 2022, AMISOM became AUSSOM, a mission that focuses more on helping Somalia take over its own security as the number of foreign troops is slowly reduced.
The fallen UPDF soldiers will always be remembered as heroes who gave their lives for peace in Somalia and the region.
