THE HUNTING CONTINUES!! Another Suspect Arrested in Ongoing Joan Kagezi Murder Investigation
The search for justice in the 2015 murder of Senior Principal State Attorney Joan Kagezi has taken a new turn with the arrest of yet another suspect. Security forces have confirmed the apprehension of Abdul Noor Ssemwogerere Ssemujju, also known as Minana, from his home in Galilaya, Kayunga District.
This arrest comes shortly after former Flying Squad commander, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nixon Agasirwe, was formally charged in connection with the same case. Agasirwe appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court on June 16, 2025, and was remanded to Luzira Prison until July 8. Because the charges are capital in nature, they will be handled by the High Court.
Joan Kagezi was tragically shot dead on March 30, 2015, in Kiwatule, Kampala, while stopping to buy fruits on her way home. At the time of her death, she was handling several high-profile terrorism cases, including the 2010 Kampala bombings trial. Her assassination shocked the nation and was widely seen as a direct attack on Uganda’s justice system.
Minana had previously been arrested in 2017 in connection with the case but was released due to lack of evidence. However, new developments—including witness testimonies and a recent sworn statement by convicted suspect Daniel Kiwanuka Kisekka—have placed him back under investigation. Kisekka claims the murder was planned and funded by “Nixon,” now identified as Agasirwe, and that Minana played a role in executing the plan.
Sources say Minana operated a garage near the murder scene and may have used it to support the operation. His name has previously surfaced in other controversial incidents, including the 2017 forced repatriation of a Rwandan asylum seeker and a 2019 fugitive smuggling case—both of which were linked to unlawful security operations.
This renewed focus on the Kagezi case is being closely watched by legal professionals, human rights advocates, and the general public. Many hope that the new wave of arrests signals a stronger commitment to resolving a case that has remained unsolved for nearly a decade.
Joan Kagezi is remembered as a fearless and dedicated prosecutor. Her family and colleagues continue to mourn her loss and call for full justice. With the investigation now gaining momentum, the nation awaits answers—and accountability.
