“Tomorrow, We Shall Execute Them” Muhoozi Releases Photo of Captured Al-Shabaab Militants After Deadly Ambush Kills 20 UPDF Soldiers
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defense Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, has issued a strong statement following a deadly ambush on Ugandan troops in Somalia. Posting on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Gen Muhoozi shared a photo of suspected terrorists arrested earlier today in Bariire, a town southwest of Mogadishu.
The post came just hours after reports emerged that at least 20 Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers were feared dead, with over 30 others injured in a surprise Al-Shabaab attack.
According to Somali media and claims by the militant group, the Ugandan soldiers were ambushed shortly after entering the town. The clash left five UPDF armored vehicles destroyed, forcing a retreat amid heavy casualties.
The UPDF is deployed in Somalia under the African Union Mission to help restore peace and combat terrorism. This latest attack highlights the ongoing dangers of the mission.
Gen Muhoozi condemned the terrorists, declaring: “We will continue to kill every Al-Shabaab terrorist however long it takes!” His firm words reflect Uganda’s resolve to defeat terrorism in East Africa.
His message has drawn strong support online, with many Ugandans expressing solidarity and offering prayers for the fallen soldiers.
Despite the tense situation on the ground, the UPDF remains committed to its mission. Gen Muhoozi’s statement sends a clear signal: Uganda’s fight against terrorism is unwavering.
