Trending!! New Details on How Former Police Commander Nixon Agasirwe Was Arrested Over Joan Kagezi’s Murder
Fresh details have come to light about the arrest of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nickson Agasirwe Karuhanga. Agasirwe, a former head of the Police Special Operations Unit, is now under investigation for the 2015 murder of respected prosecutor Joan Kagezi.
Joan Kagezi, a Senior State Prosecutor, was shot dead by unknown attackers on March 30, 2015, in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb, while driving home. Her murder remained a mystery for years—until now.
Recently, during a court hearing, a suspect named Daniel Kiwanuka Kisekka revealed that a man known as “Nixon” ordered Kagezi’s killing. Kisekka, a former soldier, has already pleaded guilty to his role in the murder.
He told the court that a man called Kibuuka informed him that Nixon paid for the operation. Kisekka also claimed he saw Nixon meeting Kibuuka in Kalerwe just two days before the killing. He noted that Nixon was driving a government vehicle at the time.
After this testimony, security agencies acted fast. A special team was created with officers from the Flying Squad, Joint Anti-Terrorism Unit, Special Forces Command, and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID). Their mission: arrest SSP Agasirwe.
According to sources, Agasirwe was arrested on Wednesday night. He was first taken to CID headquarters, then handed over to Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS), formerly known as the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). He is now being questioned.
Police have not released many details publicly. Spokesperson Mr. Kituuma Rusoke said he has not received official confirmation of the arrest. However, detectives working on the case confirmed it and said they believe Agasirwe may help identify who gave the final order.
One detective said, “We now know who the killers are. What we want to find out is who sent them.”
The investigation is ongoing, and officials hope this arrest will lead to more answers soon.
