Was She Really Killed?? New Details Leak On What Led To The Sudden Death Of Former Minister Karoro Okurut
Canon Mary Busingye Karoro Okurut was a trailblazing Ugandan leader whose influence spanned politics, education, literature, and advocacy for human rights. She served as Member of Parliament for Bushenyi District and held several key ministerial posts, including Minister of State for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister and Minister for Gender and Social Development.
Beyond politics, she was an accomplished author and educator, widely respected for championing women’s rights and speaking out for the marginalized.
Tragically, Canon Karoro Okurut passed away at the age of 71. She died at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where she had been receiving treatment following a serious accident early last month. The accident occurred as she returned from a consultative meeting in Nebbi District, leaving her with a fractured pelvis. Initially treated at Nakasero Hospital in Uganda, she was later transferred to Nairobi for specialized care.
At the time of her accident, she had recently declared her bid to represent Uganda’s elderly as a National MP in the 12th Parliament—another testament to her commitment to public service.
Her passing has left a deep void in Uganda. Tributes have poured in from across the nation, honoring her as a tireless defender of women’s rights and a leader devoted to the welfare of all Ugandans. She left her mark not only through legislation and governance but also through her work in education and the church.
The impact of her life is felt profoundly in the Ugandan Parliament, her home district of Bushenyi, and at the Valley University of Science and Technology, where she served on the Board of Trustees.
Canon Mary Busingye Karoro Okurut’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication, compassion, and leadership. She will be remembered as a true champion of the people and an inspiring force for positive change in Uganda.
