“We Are Too Broke Right Now, Just Go To Class, Don’t Expect Salary Increase”Government Responds to Teachers’ Strike
Uganda’s government has informed striking teachers that their request for higher salaries cannot be accommodated due to severe budgetary limitations. Public Service Minister Wilson Muruli Mukasa made this statement in Parliament on October 1, 2025, while presenting the Human Resource Management Professionals Bill. He revealed that only 31% of the national budget is sourced domestically, with the remainder coming from loans and development partner grants.
