“Your Action Is Treason & Betrayal To This Country” Museveni Tells Off Striking Teachers

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has strongly condemned the ongoing teachers’ strike, describing it as an act of treason and betrayal against Uganda. The President made the remarks in reaction to the sit-down strike organized by the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), which has disrupted learning across the country.
Museveni accused the striking teachers of acting like mercenaries, saying their decision to abandon classrooms is a serious offense that undermines the nation’s progress. “Your action is treason and betrayal of Uganda,” he said sternly. “You are committing a serious crime against a country that has invested in your education and welfare.”
The strike, which began on September 15, was launched to demand that the government address salary disparities between science and arts teachers. UNATU argues that the government continues to favor science teachers with higher pay, leaving arts teachers struggling to survive.
