A tragic and deeply unsettling murder has rocked the community of Lugonjo-Nakiwogo Cell in Entebbe, Uganda. On the night of July 6, David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga, 62—both respected and recently returned from Europe—were brutally killed in their home. Investigators now believe the crime was both premeditated and personal.

What has further disturbed the public is a chilling voice recording, allegedly from the perpetrator, captured during the attack. In the audio, a male voice is heard uttering haunting words such as, “Your children have studied, for me I’m suffering, now also suffer and die in pain,” and “Mutaaga, your wife is in pain, she is dying, come and save her.” Authorities consider this recording a key piece of evidence.

According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the recording is believed to have been made at the time of the murders and could play a vital role in identifying the suspect. The police have announced a reward of UGX 50 million for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Rusoke assured the public that all tips will be treated with complete confidentiality.

The crime was first discovered by the couple’s shamba boy, Ronald Golooba, who noticed signs of a break-in early the following morning and immediately alerted authorities. Upon arrival, police found both David and Deborah deceased in their bedroom, each with stab wounds to the chest. Deborah’s body was found partially undressed, raising concerns about potential sexual assault.

Investigators believe the perpetrators scaled the perimeter wall, gained access to the master bedroom by breaking a window, and may have tampered with the roof. A sniffer dog tracked the suspects’ scent to the main gate, indicating a likely escape by vehicle. While security cameras captured vague silhouettes entering the compound, the footage is currently being enhanced in hopes of identifying the attackers. Forensic evidence is also under analysis.

Authorities have ruled out a random robbery, pointing instead to a calculated attack. The killers appeared to have intimate knowledge of the property and the victims’ routine. Investigators are now examining possible insider involvement or whether the murders were connected to a broader criminal plot.

The brutality of the attack, combined with the emotionally charged words in the voice recording, suggests motives rooted in jealousy, anger, or revenge. The community remains stunned, and questions continue to arise about what could drive someone to commit such a heinous act.

Police have called on the public to assist in the ongoing investigation and help ensure justice is served. Authorities stress the importance of community cooperation in preventing such violence from occurring again.
