Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president and four-time presidential aspirant Dr. Kizza Besigye has urged Ugandans to overcome fear in order to oust incumbent president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Besigye, while speaking at the unveiling of the National Unity Platform (NUP) new head office on November 3rd, 2023, said that there are only four reasons why Museveni has kept in power, and the first being that he has instilled fear in Ugandans. The opposition icon said Museveni uses guns to intimidate Ugandans and that unless they overcome that fear and raise their faith, they will not kick Museveni out of power.

“Museveni uses guns to instill fear in us. There is no one that doesn’t fear, I also fear, but even when we fear, we must overcome that fear and raise our faith. Faith defeats fear,” Besigye advised.

Besigye said the other reasons Museveni is still in power are the use of money to corrupt his opponents, propaganda and causing divisions among his opponents. Besigye noted that the only enemy against the struggle to oust Museveni is one that doesn’t take up their responsibility.

Besigye also castigated Ugandans that don’t want to involve themselves in politics saying that they are stupid because all the policies and taxes they pay are decided by politics.

“You all have a responsibility. I hear some people say they are not politicians, if you are not a politician, you are stupid, because the taxes you pay are decided by politics. So, if you say, you are not a politician, you are stupid,” He Said.

Besigye also reaffirmed that he is not waiting for 2026 general elections to oust Museveni and that all those waiting for the election should not rely on him.
