BREAKING NEWS!! Uganda’s Hero Kizza Besigye Allegedly Very Sick At Luzira Prison, Can’t Speak & Walk
Uganda is facing fresh concerns over the health of opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is reportedly gravely ill while in detention at Luzira Prison. The four-time presidential candidate is said to be in critical condition, struggling to stand or speak properly, raising alarm among his supporters and human rights advocates.
Sources within Luzira Prison revealed that Besigye has been battling extreme weakness and dizziness. His condition has reportedly deteriorated to the point that he spends most of his time confined to his room, barely able to interact with fellow inmates or prison staff. These reports have prompted questions about the adequacy of medical care provided to him while in custody.
His lawyer, Hajj Erias Lukwago, confirmed the alarming reports after visiting Besigye over the weekend. According to Lukwago, the opposition leader was too weak to leave his room, and even speaking was a significant struggle. The legal team expressed deep concern over Besigye’s ability to withstand the harsh conditions of prison in his current state.
The health crisis has also affected his ongoing legal proceedings. On Monday, Besigye and his co-accused, Hajj Obeid Lutale, were scheduled to appear before the High Court Criminal Division to enter a plea on charges of treason and misprision of treason. Both men were absent due to illness, forcing the judges to adjourn the case until October 1.
“It is very sad that Dr. Besigye is not here,” Lukwago told journalists after the court session. “During our visit, he could not leave his room. Hajji Lutale explained that Besigye had been dizzy all day, and by evening, no one was allowed to see him. We can only pray for his quick recovery.”
The news has sent shockwaves across Uganda’s political landscape, where Besigye remains a key symbol of resistance against the government. His worsening health has reignited calls for improved treatment of political prisoners and renewed debates over the fairness of his prolonged detention.
Dr. Besigye was arrested in Nairobi last November and forcibly returned to Uganda, where he has been held in Luzira Prison ever since. With his condition deteriorating, many are now demanding urgent medical attention and questioning whether the government is taking adequate steps to safeguard his life.
