Busia’s New Force: Nahauli Shams Takes On The Status Quo With Unbridled Passion, Announces 2026 Busia Woman MP Bid

Nahauli Shams, a passionate activist, human rights defender, and teacher, is set to make a significant impact in Uganda’s political landscape. With her sights on becoming the Busia District Woman Member of Parliament in the 2026 general elections, Shams is leveraging her academic background, family values, and leadership experience to make a difference.

Born and raised in Busia, Shams’ academic journey has been marked by continuous learning and growth. From her early days at Busia Interstated School to her time at Makerere University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Arts with Education, Shams has consistently demonstrated her commitment to education.

Her leadership skills were evident even in her school days, where she held various positions, including class monitor, speaker, class captain, and head girl.Shams’ involvement in extracurricular activities, such as the Mentorship and Empowerment Program for Young Women (Memprow) and the Wildlife Club, has equipped her with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of governance and policymaking.

Her experience as a class coordinator, campaign team member, and sports minister at the School of Education has further honed her leadership abilities.Shams’ family background has instilled in her the values of community, empathy, and integrity, which she believes are essential in public service.

Her parents, who worked tirelessly to provide for their family, have taught her the importance of responsibility towards others, especially those facing challenges within the community.

With her academic and family background as her foundation, Shams is now seeking to channel her experiences and values into policies that uplift and empower every member of her constituency. She believes in inclusive leadership and is committed to building a better future for generations to come.

As Nahauli Shams traverses the scenic landscapes of Busia, she is met with resounding support from both the youthful and elderly populations.
