In a surprising turn of events, renowned city lawyer Male Mabirizi has initiated a bold move to halt the impending graduation of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, from Cavendish University Uganda.

The charismatic singer-turned-politician is slated to receive a Bachelor of Laws degree from the esteemed institution, but Mabirizi’s intervention threatens to put this milestone on hold.

Mabirizi alleges that Bobi Wine skipped classes and employed mercenaries to write his exams, citing Paragraphs XXVI(i-ii) and XXIX(f) of Uganda’s Constitution and Articles 17(1)(i) that emphasize the promotion of democracy and the rule of law.

He demands that the vice chancellor releases Bobi Wine’s marked answer sheets for verification by handwriting experts to ensure he wrote the exams himself. He now wants Bobi Wine’s name removed from the graduation list so that no Bachelor of Laws Degree is conferred upon him until it has been established that he wrote the examination papers himself.

The graduation is scheduled for August 08, 2024 at Speke Resort Convention Hall, Munyonyo.

“You are therefore required to avail me with all Answer sheets by the said KYAGULANYI SSENTAMU ROBERT for my onward transmission to handwriting experts to verify whether they were written by him and ascertain whether the answers therein were correct that required him to pass,” he wrote to the Cavendish University Uganda Vice Chancellor.

“In the meantime, you should HALT his [Bobi Wine’s] graduation to avoid the process of deprivation of the said degree if it is found that he obtained it ‘through fraud or dishonourable or scandalous conduct.’”

The lawyer claims to have received complaints from students and former students that Bobi Wine didn’t meet graduation requirements, and points to a recent speech where Bobi Wine allegedly failed to distinguish between a Magistrate and a Judge, raising questions about his attendance and understanding of basic law concepts.

“Ever since you released a Graduation List for 2024 including KYAGULANYI SSENTAMU ROBERT among those to graduate for Law, I have been approached, in confidence, by many Ugandans, including your current and former students who informed me that he never qualified to graduate because he was never in classes but opted to use mercenaries to write papers,” the lawyer alleges.

Mabirizi also revisits previous allegations of academic fraud against Bobi Wine, including his admission to Makerere University for a diploma in music, dance, and drama, and his alleged fraudulent change of date of birth.

“KYAGULANYI is a former Member Parliament and now a RULER of a political Party, NATIONAL UNITY PLATFORM which receives enormous funding from tax payers hence he must be subjected to high scrutiny,” wrote Mabirizi.

“He has an ACADEMIC FRAUD history at Makerere University where he was admitted to a Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama in 2000 on Mature Age Entry Government Sponsorship yet he was 20 years then, below the required 25 minimum and has not spent 5 years outside formal education, as required. This is a subject of High Court Criminal proceedings. He is also facing Charges over his fraudulent change of date of birth from 1980 to 1982.”

Mabirizi has previously raised concerns on the admission of Bobi Wine to Makerere University for a diploma in music, dance and drama, as well as his age.

With the graduation ceremony scheduled for August 8, 2024, Mabirizi’s move has sparked a heated debate about the integrity of Bobi Wine’s academic credentials and his eligibility for graduation.

As Bobi Wine prepares to join the ranks of Uganda’s legal fraternity, Mabirizi’s move raises questions about the politician’s academic credentials and eligibility for graduation. The NUP leader’s journey to this point has been marked by controversy and political intrigue, making this latest twist a fascinating addition to his story.

With the graduation ceremony looming, all eyes are on Cavendish University Uganda as the institution navigates this unprecedented situation. Will Bobi Wine be allowed to receive his degree, or will Mabirizi’s objections derail his plans? Only time will tell.
