Former minister Chris Rwakasisi has shared one of Uganda’s most remarkable stories of forgiveness and reconciliation — a journey from deep hatred to genuine friendship with President Yoweri Museveni, the very man he once prayed would die. Speaking at the 2025 National Prayer Breakfast at State House Entebbe, Rwakasisi recounted his transformation from a bitter prisoner to a man of faith and peace.
Rwakasisi, who served in the Obote II government, was one of the most influential politicians of his time. Following the 1980 elections, he was appointed State Minister in the Office of the President, placing him at the center of power. He enjoyed influence, luxury, and authority, with a convoy nearly rivaling the president’s. But everything changed after Obote’s government fell.
When the NRM government took over, Rwakasisi was arrested and later sentenced to death for murder and kidnapping. He spent 24 years on death row at Luzira Prison.
