Gen. Salim Saleh, a renowned 1986 war veteran and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s trusted brother, recently fell ill, sparking a series of emergency meetings among individuals dubbed “mafias.”

Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a long-time friend of Gen. Saleh and senior presidential advisor on media, confirmed the development.

Mirundi expressed concern about the “mafias’” plot to exploit Gen. Saleh’s illness for power and financial gain. He revealed that they aimed to access Gen. Saleh’s funds, which he keeps in a bag.

Mirundi promptly verified the General’s condition with his assistants and wished for his speedy recovery.

“When I saw people I know as mafias fighting to take over power after President Museveni’s government panicked, I got scared and I picked interest to establish what was going on because I know them, they can overthrow the government without our knowledge,” Mirundi said.

According to Mirundi, his sources within the government have revealed that certain individuals are seeking to exploit Gen. Saleh’s illness for personal financial gain.

He alleges that a secret meeting was held to discuss ways to access Gen.Saleh’s substantial cash reserves, reportedly stored in a bag.

Mirundi claims to have verified the General’s condition with his aides, confirming the rumors of his illness. It appears that some individuals are attempting to capitalize on Gen. Saleh’s vulnerability, seeking to pilfer his wealth.

“I pray for his quick recovery, you know our people thought that big people like Gen. Saleh don’t get sick, we also get sick because we are human beings, but my brother Gen Saleh is recovering,” Mirundi said.

The “mafias’” failed attempt to steal Gen. Saleh’s money has led to malicious propaganda about his management of Operation Wealth Creation funds.

Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda noted that Gen. Saleh is the next powerful person in the country after President Museveni, and it is the reason why whoever is given a top government job, they first seek appointment with Gen. Saleh to appreciate and confirm that he or she will follow his instructions.

Ssemujju Nganda acknowledged Gen. Saleh’s significant influence, noting that top government appointees seek his approval. This is not the first time the General is falling sick.

Recently, he got very ill that bad people announced him dead. According to late Lt. Gen. Pecos Kutesa’s book, ‘Uganda’s Revolution 1979-1986 How I saw it’, he explains how Gen Saleh survived the Bukalambi battle against the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) in 1982 during the NRA rebel war.

He describes Gen. Saleh as a loving commander, noting that fighters always wanted him to command the operation against the enemy because under his command, they won.
