Yesterday there was drama in parliament as speaker Anita Among was arm twisted to say a word or two on matters corruption that have drowned the image of parliament and that of the speaker and other parliament leadership in spotlight and scrutiny.

After days of being at the receiving but with no convincing explanation regarding the leaked documents from the house which have detailed payments to Anita Among through several of her junior staff, parliament resumed yesterday amidst tensions.

When asked by the Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi to come clean on the allegations, Speaker instead told Ssenyonyi that works on the Lubowa hospital have resumed in high gear and he shouldn’t worry any more.

Feeling unconvinced by how she swept the issue under the carpet, Lwemiyaga legislator Theodre Ssekikubo faced the bull by the hones and slapped the demand in Anita Among’s face to say some thing or parliament remains to be seen as a den of corruption.

“Honorable members, i will never, and am saying NEVER give you an answer on hearsay, rumormongering and we are not going to run this house on rumor mongering. I just saw yesterday where they said honorable Okinyi was dealing on cocaine, Okinyi PP is here which cocaine is the guy dealing on. Me to answer you on HEASAY, on things that you have cooked on the social media because i have said no to bum shafting [homosexuality], i will not”-said a visibly angry Anita Among.

Speaking after the session, Leader of opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has lashed at the speaker for hiding behind the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 to skip questions regarding accountability and misuse of public funds. According to Ssenyonyi the Ugandans demanding accountability are not homosexuals.

“Give us a break Madam Speaker, Stop hiding under the issue of homosexuality. Are you saying that Ugandans who are demanding for accountability for their money are homosexuals? Come on, let’s be serious. Stop scapegoating, no one is talking about homosexuality here. Ugandans are saying, account for this money, so stop pretending around that you see they don’t like me. No, it doesn’t matter whether people like you or not. What matters is that you are occupying a public office and you are misusing their money,” said @JoelSsenyonyi
