Minister Evelyn Anite has sparked controversy with a veiled attack on top officials in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, suggesting that many of the corrupt individuals within the party are former opposition members.

Speaking at a recent event, Anite criticized corruption within the NRM but stopped short of naming specific individuals.

However, her comments were widely seen as a thinly veiled jab at high-ranking officials who defected from the opposition to join the NRM, including Speaker Anita Among and her Deputy Thomas Tayebwa.

Both Among and Tayebwa have faced criticism over their handling of Parliament, with several protests staged against their leadership and allegations of corruption. Anite’s comments have sparked a heated debate, with some calling on her to name the corrupt individuals she was referring to.

One social media user responded, “Evelyn, it would be nice if you mentioned their names so that we don’t vote them back in 2026. Please stop going around the corner but tell us their names directly.”

In response, Anite appeared to encourage others to name the individuals on her behalf, saying, “You can mention on my behalf.”

The minister’s comments have highlighted the ongoing tensions within the NRM and the growing concerns about corruption and leadership within the party.
