Roy Rubongoya, a well-known political leader, has spoken out following the arrest of Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, expressing concerns over the government’s actions ahead of the 2026 elections. Rubongoya described the arrest as part of a broader effort to weaken opposition voices before the polls.

According to Rubongoya, the government is allegedly fabricating cases against opposition members to intimidate and silence them. He warned that these tactics are designed to instill fear and disrupt opposition activities across the country.

“The government is forging cases against us to weaken us ahead of 2026, but all logical people can see through it,” Rubongoya stated. He stressed that these measures target not just individuals, but the democratic process itself.

Rubongoya criticized authorities for using arrests and legal pressure against political opponents instead of focusing on national issues. He argued that such actions reveal a lack of confidence in winning public support through fair elections.

The arrest of Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro has drawn reactions from across Uganda’s political spectrum. Opposition supporters have expressed outrage, calling it a blatant example of political persecution and a threat to free political activity.

Political analysts warn that tensions are likely to escalate as the 2026 elections approach. They caution that targeting opposition leaders could deepen political polarization and raise serious questions about the fairness of the electoral process.

Rubongoya concluded by urging Ugandans to remain vigilant and resist being intimidated. He emphasized that the strength of the opposition lies in unity and the public’s ability to see through manipulative tactics aimed at undermining democratic participation.
